The Challenge #70 - Masculine Fan

Hello, peeps!  My post title is a little misleading.  This is not about a fan that's masculine or a fan of the masculine, it’s about a masculine challenge for which I'm using a fan image.  Is that clear as mud?  Ha, ha!

See?  It’s really an airplane prop, but my fan has blades too.  Surely that counts!

The Challenge #68 - Happy Birthday Colors

Hello, and happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

It’s the second Monday of the month and that means it’s time for a color challenge at The Challenge!  I adore this bright palette!

~

~

I wanted to keep the bright happy feel and decided a birthday card was in order, so I pulled out a few of my Dylusions ink sprays to provide the great vivid colors.  The great Shaped Sayings: Birthday die is from PTI.

~

~

Hello, Sunshine Fishes - The Challenge #67

~

Hey, y’all!

It’s Monday and the first one of the new month. 

Can you believe it’s April already?!  I love Spring…mostly because it leads us into summer!  And if you know me, I bet you knew I was going to say that! 

Since this is the first Monday of the month, we have a sketch to play with at The Challenge.

~

~

Isn’t that cool?

I took a little creative liberty with the sketch, using darker colors in place of the panel that shows on top of the card base.  Here’s how it turned out.

~

~

These darling fish, called Fish Group, are from Rubbernecker and they come on one piece of rubber.  After I stamped and colored them on a piece of watercolor paper, I fussy cut them to separate them for use as the 3 star elements in the sketch.

I used the PTI Waves stencil to emboss the background panel before I water colored it with my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors.  Then I used my Kuretake Zig Clean Color pens for the fish.  The sentiment is from the MFT Polynesian Paradise stamp set and the clear sequins serve as bubbles.

The Challenge #63 Sketch - Oh My Stars!

~

Hello friends!

It’s time for a sketch from The Challenge!  I love sketches!  And this one was so much fun!

~

~

Isn’t it great? 

I went with a water colored and die cut layer, over a sparkly glitter paper layer.

~

~

I taped my stencil down over my watercolor paper and painted through it with my Peerless watercolors.  The dies and the fun sentiment are from Lil’ Inker Designs.

~

~

Wonderful You - The Challenge #61

Welcome to the 3rd week of The Challenge for this month.  That means we have a photo inspiration and here it is:

I really love that rustic looking kitchen.  I went with the look of old wood and the pinks and greens of the appliances, floral arrangements and cake stands.  Here’s my card:

~

~

I used my Bold Blooms Matching dies and my Bold Blossoms dies from Essentials by Ellen for the flowers and leaves, and I trimmed off a few hearts that I had left over from another card that had been die cut with my Stacked Hearts die.  The sentiment is from the Fancy Thanks set, also from Essentials by Ellen.  I added some washi tape and a little Star Dust Stickles to the heart in the center of the flower.

The Challenge #60 (Colors) and a tribute to Adele

Hey, guys!

You may have noticed that the last The Challenge was a 2-weeker, but now we’re back with a new challenge.  This week it’s a color combo for you to play with: Pink, Red, Gray, and White

Such a great color combo! 

This is not really a tribute to Adele, but I can’t help but hear her fabulous new song Hello every time I look at this card!

~

~

Now the song is in your head too, right??

The card is very simple and graphic with no coloring at all.  Oh, the horror!  LOL!  It’s all die cut layers and I added a few pink enamel dots for interest and it was done!

Dad's Truck - The Challenge #58

Happy Monday, friends!  If you’re on the East Coast like me, I hope you survived the crazy Winter Storm Jonas!  And just when did they start naming winter storms??

Today is the day for a brand new The Challenge.  Since it’s the 4th Monday, it’s a Masculine Inspiration:

I love that old car/truck in the photo!  And I just happened to have picked up this “Dad’s Truck” stamp in the clearance section of Hobby Lobby not too long ago.  Seemed like a perfect time to break it out!

~ ~

I kept it simple.  I stamped the image in Weathered Wood Distress ink and painted it with my Kuretake Gansai Tambi water colors and did some detailing with my Kuretake Zig Clean Color pens.  The sentiment from the PTI Fillable Frames sentiments was stamped in WPlus9 Nautical Navy dye ink.

Vintage Floral Inspiration - The Challenge #57

Hello, my friends!

It’s time for a brand new The Challenge!  This week is the 3rd in the month so we’ve got an inspiration challenge for you.

~

~

How beautifully feminine and vintage does that look?

I tried to follow along those lines and used some soft seam binding to create a flower-like element to create around.

~

~

The background panel is made of watercolor paper.  It was stamped with a REALLY old script stamp and then dry embossed with my Diamonds in the Rough embossing folder. Then I spritzed it with some Heidi Swapp Blush Color Shine.  I also used several die cuts to add a collage feel to the card front.  And now it’s ready for a special person on Valentine’s Day!

The Challenge - Exciting news!

Good Monday morning, friends!

I’m super excited to let you know that as of today I’m joining the design team at The Challenge!  I’ll be posting a creation each Monday for the variety of challenges that Lesley comes up with!  They’re always so much fun!  I hope you’ll be joining in the fun with us!

On the first Monday of each month, the challenge is a sketch.  Here’s this month’s:

I wanted my large circle element to be more abstract so I opted for a water-colored background in Distress inks of Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers.

~

 ~

The water-colored flowers and leaves were cut using the Essentials by Ellen dies, called Bold Blossoms.  I heat embossed the sentiment from the WPlus9 Fresh Cut Florals stamp set in white on black cardstock.
