Fall is really here, isn't it? - Color Throwdown #362

As much as I’ve tried to deny it, Autumn has indeed descended on the South.  It’s still quite warm during the day, but the leaves are changing colors and the pool water has chilled significantly.  Sigh.  Summer, I sure will miss you.

I guess it’s time to celebrate the new season, and the Color Throwdown has just the color palette to do that!  Vickie is our hostess and she’s chosen this beautiful cake as our inspiration:

I’d love to see if it tastes as good as it looks!

The base colors are red, orange, green and brown.

Embracing the inevitable, I’ve pulled out an old SU stamp set called Autumn Splendor to use.  I stamped the leaves and acorns on some Mixed Media paper and watercolored using my Real Brush Clean Color pens.  And yes I really did fussy cut every last one of them!

I have to apologize for my picture.  My camera has decided it doesn't want to auto-focus any more and these old eyes don't do so well either.

The background was made by smooshing using some Shabby Shutters and some Crushed Olive inks.  The layout is from this weeks Paper Players PP#264:

ADFD Showcase - Mucha Style Flowers

Happy Friday, everyone!

I took the summer off from my A Day For Daisies DT duties due to an overload of things to do at home and at work but now I’m back!  And just in time to be able to play with one of the Mucha Style Flowers in the ADFD showcase!  They are so beautiful!

Starting this week there’s a new challenge and here’s the inspiration board for it:

I decided to use the purples and golds in my creation today with the Mucha Style Yellow Poppy.

~

~

My image was printed on Mixed Media paper and then watercolored using Kuretake Zig Clean Color pens. (I used 045, 046, 050, 051, 052, 061, 065, 036, 081, and 083.)  I fussy cut it and layered it over my card base which was inspired by this week’s Sunday Stamps SSC110 sketch:

Chameleon Birthday - Color Throwdown #361

~

Hello, hello!!  I hope you all are having a great week so far!  Are you ready for the latest and greatest Color Throwdown challenge?

Tammy is our hostess this week and I love her bright and happy color combo:

I’ve had the MFT Polynesian Paradise for a little while and have colored up several of the images in it; just haven’t used them on cards until now!  This little fellow is my favorite!

~

~

He’s just the cutest!  And since he’s a chameleon, he can be any color you want him to be!!

I stamped him in Antique Linen ink  and colored him using my Copic markers.  Yes, coloring the no-line stamped images is hard!!  I used some black enamel accents for his eye and highlighted him in areas with a white gel pen.

~

~

The Happy is from the super cool Summer Happiness die set from Simon Says Stamp.  The yellow background was created using Color Bursts in Lemon Yellow.

Special Day in watercolors - Color Throwdown #354

Hello, friends!

It’s time for our latest edition of the Color Throwdown challenge!  And it’s a new month so we’re also welcoming a brand new guest designer.

Wanda is our hostess this week with these gorgeous soft colors for us to play with:

I just got this awesome new die set called Dainty Flowers from Paper Smooches on a recent shopping trip at Ellen Hutson’s shop and I couldn’t wait to play with it!  Here’s what I came up with:

~

~

I used the smooshing technique for the kraft and blue background and I used a water brush to paint the die cut flowers.

~

~

I also used my Copic markers to shade and highlight the flowers.  They’re popped up on foam mounting tape too.

Simple Sunflower Hugs - Color Throwdown #353

Happy Hump Day!!  Woo hoo!  Only a couple more days until the weekend!

It’s time to reveal a brand new Color Throwdown challenge!  Vickie is our hostess this week and here are her fun colors (yellow, purple, and green):

I just had to go with the sunflower image, so I pulled out my PTI Simple Sunflower set and stamped it in Distress inks onto watercolor paper.  I die cut all the pieces, then used the smooshing technique to color my Sugar Pea Gift Tag die cut in Dusty Concord and Seedless Preserves inks.

ADFD Showcase: Little Mermaid

Hello, friends!  It’s finally Friday and I know you’re all just as glad as I am.

Before we get the weekend started, let me show you what I’ve been working on this week.  This little sweetie from A Day For Daisies is called “Dreams”.

The background is one that I had watercolored earlier in the week with Distress inks.  I wanted to use it for the waves and the sky.  I printed my image on some plain copy paper, laid it over the watercolor panel and traced the waves only by using a dull pencil and pressing hard.  When I removed the copy paper, I could see the lines and then I used an EK journaling pen in black to draw over it.  I colored the rock using some Distress Black Soot ink and added some darker blues as shadows behind the waves and rock.  I also added some highlights with a white gelly roll pen.

The mermaid was colored using my Copic markers.  I cut her out and popped her up on some foam mounting tape.  I also highlighted her hair and tail with some Wink of Stella glitter brushes.

Ahoy Birthday Wishes - Color Throwdown #348

Ahoy, Mateys!  It’s time for the latest and greatest edition of the Color Throwdown challenge!  The lovely Joan is our hostess this week and she’s given us a “summer by the sea” color palette to play with - blue, yellow and red!

Isn’t that a great quilt? 

I just got some new goodies from Papertrey Ink and one set just happened to be the super cute Ahoy stamp set.  It’s such a fun set and has matching dies.  I also got the new Cover Plate: Waves die.  So I decided to play around and see what I could come up with.  And here’s the final result:

~

The background is done on watercolor paper using the also new and also from PTI Good Times stamp set.  I misted the top half of my paper until it was really wet and then I dabbed up any puddles with a paper towel.  I inked my confetti stamp with 3 yellow Distress inks and stamped it at the top of the panel.  I did the same with 3 blue inks at the bottom, but did it a couple of times to bring the pattern farther up the panel.  I also stamped a couple of waves using the waves stamp from the Ahoy set.

I stamped the sentiment with black ink.  Don’t you love that font?? 

I added the Waves die cut, the sailboat and a couple of the birds.  Lastly I added some sequins.

A Day For Daisies Showcase: It's a New Day

Hello and happy Friday!

The A Day For Daisies design team is showcasing several fun images in a collection called It’s a New Day.  You can see them at the A Day For Daisies shop or on the ADFD blog.

Today I’ve colored up New Suit and created a fun watery background for her.

This little darling was colored with my Copic markers and I paper pieced her “new suit”.  That, by the way, is the new challenge at the ADFD blog – Paper Piecing, or Piercing, if you like!

~

~

To create the background I inked up one side of my Waves stencil with Versamark. laid my watercolor cardstock on top of it face down, and brayered the back of the cardstock to get a fair amount of the ink onto the grainy paper.  I quickly sprinkled on my white detail embossing powder and heat set it.  I didn’t need a really crisp image, because I only wanted to suggest the movement of the water in the background.

I “smooshed” Distress inks, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, and Cracked Pistachio, onto an acetate sheet, misted with water, then pressed the acetate onto my watercolor cardstock until I was happy with how it looked.

I added some Bokeh Dots with some white pigment ink, but the ink pad was a little dry so I pulled out my Wink of Stella clear pen and highlighted them.

Next I die cut using my SSS Stitched Circles dies one at a time, starting with the smallest one and running it through the Big Shot with each die individually.  The largest circle is adhered onto the card front with a tape runner adhesive, the second circle is adhered with 1/16” foam mounting tape, and the smallest circle with 1/8” foam mounting tape.

I added my precious little girl and some pieces from one of my all time favorite paper collections (which I may have been hoarding), Beach Babe from Fancy Pants, and called it done.

Garden Fireworks - June's Power Poppy Digital Stamp set

Hello, and happy June 15th to you all!

It’s time to reveal this month’s Power Poppy digital stamp set called Garden Fireworks!

Raspberry Floral Watercolor - Color Throwdown #346

Hello and happy middle-of-the-week-hump-day!!

We have a brand new Color Throwdown challenge for you today!   Barbara is our hostess and here’s her awesome palette:

I wanted to play around with stencils and Distress inks this week.  This is what I came up with:

~

~

To create the background I inked up the back of a couple of stencils with Distress inks, misted them with water, then pressed the stencils onto the watercolor paper.  I used Frayed Burlap with the Mini Art Is stencil and Shabby Shutters with the Mini Onion Skin stencil.  Then I stamped over the dried panel with more Shabby Shutters and a grid background stamp.

The flower was stamped in Versamark, heat embossed with white detail embossing powder and painted using a water brush and Picked Raspberry and Crushed Olive inks.
