Santa Saw That! - Color Throwdown #314

Good Wednesday to you all!  Not that Wednesday is a good day…but it's sure better than Monday or Tuesday!

It's time for the latest edition of the Color Throwdown challenge, y'all!  This week, Lori is our hostess and she's chosen a soft and sweet combo:

This palette calls for bright red, pale yellow and pale pink.  I just could NOT wait to play with my latest stash of goodies from the Essentials by Ellen release, designed by the fabulous Julie Ebersole!  My card today features the fabulous Bokeh Dots and the super fun Tis the Season sets.

~

~

I absolutely love this fun Santa and the "Saw that." sentiment.  I'll be using this for all the teenage grandkids Christmas cards, for sure!

I wanted to point out that his sunglasses are supposed to be a solid color fill-in, but I took the edge of my black stamp pad and swiped it down over the glasses at an angle to get the stripey-reflection look.

I cut the little tag on my Silhouette Cameo.  The black layer and the tag are popped up on foam mounting tape.

Seriously, You Rock! - Color Throwdown #307

Hey, you guys!

It's time for our latest edition of the Color Throwdown!  I know you're as excited as I am!

Monika chose this gorgeous color combo for us to play with this week:

Seriously awesome!

And speaking of seriously….I just had to use my new Seriously word die  from Lil' Inker Designs, as well as the Seriously Awesome stamps and the Balloon dies.

~

~

I used the Friday Mashup challenge to use the Bokeh effect and/or a die cut.  I decided to "Mash It Up!" and do both!

~

~

I used Mustard Seed, Crushed Olive, and Salty Ocean Distress inks spritzed with water on my craft sheet then absorbed it with my watercolor paper.  (Supplies from eclectic Paperie.)

Like Dawn at WPlus9 I made my own "ghetto" stencil using an acrylic sheet and some circle dies.   I also used a stencil I made on the Silhouette that looks like falling snow for the tinier circles.  For the "bokeh" I used Brilliance Moonlight White ink and a mini ink blending tool.  I tied the balloons to the "s" using some black hand-quilting thread.  This was loads of fun and I love how it turned out!

{happy birthDay} - Color Throwdown #294

Happy Wednesday! It's my week to host at the Color Throwdown and of course I chose a serene water scene as my inspiration photo. 

~

~

Even though it's a calm scene, the colors are happy and just right for a birthday card.  This is one that I made for my granddaughter Molly's 5th birthday.

~

~

I had picked up a couple of packages of the these paper straws at a craft show not long ago and have been saving them for cards for the kids.  I knew they'd love them!

I cut several to different lengths and used some super sticky Scor-Tape to mount them to the card.  The banner was cut twice using my Silhouette, and the second one was trimmed and popped up above the first with foam mounting tape for more dimension.  Then, of course, I had to add quite a few fun, shiny sequins.

Molly loved the card!!

FTTC243 - Fussy Cutting

Hello, Flourishes friends!  It's time for the latest Timeless Tuesday challenge!

Today Jenny is our hostess and she's asking us to do some Fussy Cutting!

~

I figured I'd better be making some of my Christmas cards (even though I haven't finished the Halloween cards for my grandkids) so I won't be in such a rush come December 1st!

I pulled out my Poinsettia and Pine stamp set (I'll always love this one!) and used my Silhouette to "fussy cut" the pine bough from some Flourishes Classic Kraft cardstock before stamping it in Memento Tuxedo black ink.

I colored the pine bough and holly berries with my Copic markers using these collections: Poppy, Pistachio and Evergreen. Then I added some Glossy Accents to the berries and holly leaves.  The circles were cut from the Poppy and Pistachio paper collections and from the So Noted paper pad.  I used the Candy Cane Stripes embossing folder on the Classic White cardstock and popped up the circles and image on foam tape.  I also added some Basque Seam Binding and some twine.  Last touch = Christmas colored sequins!

Bravo! - Color Throwdown #258

Happy Hump Day, y'all!  It's time for the latest Color Throwdown challenge and you're going to love this combo!  Lynn is our hostess and here are the colors she's chosen for us:

Yummy, huh?

Of course my first thought was to go for the florals, but then I decided that I really wanted to color up another one of the ADFD feathers - this one is Sketch Pad Feather Four.

~

~

My background is just splatters of SU reinkers.  I used the Taylored Expressions Instant Photo Frame die and a Silhouette feather cut as well as the ADFD feather.  Then I tied on some Honeydew twine, some kraft jute, and some white cotton twine.  The sentiment is from the Avery Elle Oh Yeah stamp set.

Hello, everyone, and happy Sunday to you!

My youngest grandson's birthday is in a little over a week, so it was time to make his birthday card.  I've wanted to play along in Stacey's Curtain Call challenge "Feeling Nautical" since we just got back from the beach and Miles was very excited that he saw his very first lighthouse.  Nautical just seemed like the perfect theme!

I didn't use any stamps and I didn't color anything for this card.  It's all Silhouette cuts along with a Sailor's Knot tied using Barbara's tutorial and some jewelry hemp, and a few sprinkled sequins.

Garden Picks Birthday - Color Throwdown #248

Hello, everyone!  It's my week to host the Color Throwdown challenge and I've chosen an image that is the perfect sample of my style….beachy, comfy, casual, and laid back.  Yep, that's me! 

Here are the challenge colors:

My card is a quite literal interpretation of the inspiration photo.  I used my Garden Picks stamp set along with the matching Silhouette cut file.   It's stamped in both Tuxedo black ink (the flowers) and Teal Zeal ink (the stems & jar).  The image is colored with Copic markers, of course.

~

~

My card base is kraft, and I stamped a couple of the images from the Sketched Shapes stamp set, using white ink.  I added a paper doily and some seam binding.  The sentiment is also from the Sketched Shapes set and is stamped in Versafine black onto a MFT Rounded Banner Trio die cut.

Notice how the paper doily is hanging just a little over the bottom edge?  That's because I made it that way to qualify for the current CAS-ual Friday challenge - CFC106 - Over the Edge:

You Are My Sunshine - Color Throwdown #243

Hi, all!  It's Wednesday and  of course that means a new challenge at the Color Throwdown!  Denise has chosen an awesome inspiration photo with a great color combo.  Check it out:

I decided to go a little scrappy and inky today.  I had cut the "You are my Sunshine" from a piece of Daffodil Delight for another project and really, really liked how the negative looked when I tossed it onto a piece of black cardstock.  So that's where I started, and here's where I ended up:

~

~

I just love that the inverted scalloped circle die cuts look like suns, so of course that's what I used to cut the daffodil cs.  The background was spritzed with some Dylusions Black Marble ink spray and there are 3 sequins (2 big ole yellow ones and a tiny green one) added for a little sparkle.

Water Baby Nap journal page

Today's creation is doing double duty!  This is the newest release from A Day For Daisies - Water Babies.  Such a sweet mermaid mom cuddling her little baby.  This image is called Water Baby Nap.

I decided to color her up with my Copic markers and cut her out to use on my journal page that I made for this months eclectic Paperie eTeam Picks Challenge - Gel Medium.

I used my Studio Gel Medium mixed with a tiny bit of Studio gesso and some Studio yellow pastel paint to create a glaze for the base color of my journal page.  Then I spritzed the page lightly with Dylusions Fresh Lime, Vibrant Turquoise and White Linen ink spray.  Next I used an Adirondack acrylic paint dabber in gold to dab here and there and also to line around the edges.

I mixed some Studio 490 embossing paste with a little of the Fresh Lime ink spray and spread it onto the page using the my Mini Confetti stencil.

Finally I highlighted and shaded using a Micron pen and a watercolor marker.  I also used a Silhouette die cut LOVE flag and my Dylusions Letter Jumble Stencil with the marker to create the YOU.

Easter cards for the grandkids…

Hey there!

I just wanted to pop in for a second and show you this year's Easter cards for the grandkids.  All 8 of them.  Yeah, our kids have got to stop having kids!!

I tried to go simple but when you're making 8 cards, nothing seems simple enough!

~

Blue for the boys and pink for the girls, of course!  I definitely won't be able to make the same cards for everyone much longer.  The kids ages range from 14 years to 5 months.  I guess eventually I'm going to have to graduate to making adult cards for the older ones!
