Today I have a card to show you using another of the featured images at A Day For Daisies this month….this one is called Love Hurts!  This little guy is so cute!

Patchwork Valentine Heart - Color Throwdown #327

~

Hi, everyone!

Today is the day to reveal another great color combo from the Color Throwdown girls!  This week Wanda is our hostess and she’s chosen a vibrant and fun palette!

Love that patchwork heart!  So much so that I had to try and recreate my own!

I did it by cutting varying widths of patterned papers and adhering them to a piece of black cardstock.  Then I cut strips in the opposite direction and then adhered those onto another piece of black cardstock.

~

~

Shortly after taking this photo, I totally annihilated my Grand Calibur by trying to run the patchwork heart through it.  It was stuck in the machine.  Big time.  I disassembled it and still could not get my plates and patchwork heart out.   George ending up having to cut the thing with a hacksaw to get the plates out.  So my patchwork heart and the die were saved, but my Grand Calibur is nothing but little pieces of plastic and metal now.  Time to look for a new machine and I’m gladly taking suggestions!  So bring them on!

Anyway…..here’s my finished card:

I really like how it turned out!  Good thing after all the trouble I went through to get it done, huh?!!

Fairy Flower Outing

Happy Friday, y’all!

Wishing You Joy - Color Throwdown #326

Hi, all!

It’s time for the latest edition of the Color Throwdown challenge!  My lovely friend Vickie is our hostess this week and I love the combo she chose.  I think it’s one of my favorites!!

I wanted to play with my new Simon Says Stamp Sending and Wishing stamp set, along with the Wishing die.  LOVE these!!  They can be used for SO many occasions!  I also wanted to try using the Stitched Slopes and Hills die set for something other than a snowy slope!

AND I wanted to play along with the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge #10 – Spots and Dots!

I used 2 of the slopes and the Wishing die all at one time to cut the sentiment panel.

~

~

Then I used 2 splat stamp sets (links below) to create my watercolor panel, by stamping them first, then spritzing with water and letting it all blend together and drip a little.  I added some more splats onto the wet paper too.

I cut the watercolor panel with my Stitched Rectangle dies, stamped the rest of the sentiment at the bottom of it then adhered it with foam mounting tape.

I also added a tiny open heart from the same set and some Moonshine sequins.

Fairy Dream in Ombre

Hi, all!  And a happy Friday to you!  I’m so glad it’s finally here!

Today the A Day For Daisies design team is showing off even more of the January Club Kit.  I am a total fairy addict so I could never get enough of Tammy Thompson’s wonderful little creatures!

We’re also starting a new challenge this week – use Ombre in your creation!

Today I’m using Fairy Dream.  She’s quite lovely!!  For the ombre element, I made her gown in shades of orange and my watercolor background is in shades of pink.  She’s colored with Copic markers.

I dry embossed the green layer with a Dot Matrix folder and all the sparkle you see is from Star Dust stickles.  Of course her wings are sparkly, but I also added some highlights to her dress and her hair.  The splatterings of sparkly dots you see on the white layers is where I rubbed some of the Star Dust stickles through my Dot Fade stencil using my finger.

An Exciting Announcement - the Instant Gardeners!

~

Hey, y’all! 

I’ve got an exciting announcement!  I was asked to be a part of a fabulous new design team – the Power Poppy Instant Gardeners!

Each month on the 15th, Marcella Hawley will introduce a new set of digital images, and it will be my extreme pleasure to be able to help to introduce them to you!  This month is the incredible La Vie en Rose:

I was so excited to see this image!  I couldn’t decide if I wanted to color it with my Copic markers or watercolor it!  I ended up using the markers, but placed it onto a water colored dry embossed background!

~

~

My favorite rose bush is one that I see on my way to visit my Mom.  It’s at a decades old farmhouse in the country and is set alone by a fence.  All summer long it’s in full bloom with hundreds of huge yellow & pink blooms.  It makes my heart so happy to see it every time!  So naturally I chose this color combo for my rose.  And I also chose to flip the image upside down.  Somehow it  just seemed right for this card layout.

My background layer was water colored with Distress inks and when dry, I dry embossed it.  The rose layer is up on foam mounting tape and I’ve scattered a few sequins around for some shimmer and shine.  I also used some glossy accents to create a few dew drops here and there.

Seriously, I've started my Valentine cards - CTD #325

~

Yes, it’s never too early to start on your Valentine cards.  This was finally determined around Christmas Eve Eve when there were not nearly enough Christmas cards to go around.  So I’ve started.  On my Valentine cards.  This is the first one…using this week’s new Color Throwdown challenge.  Tammy’s the hostess and she picked a whopper of a combo.  I struggled with this one, for sure.  (Thanks so much, Tammy!)

The colors look great together, but I just couldn’t decide how to put them together for my card.  So this is what I ended up with.  I think it was the yellow that threw me off!

~

~

What’s that you say?  You don’t think someone would appreciate receiving a Valentine card that says “Seriously, you stink”??    In non-Valentine colors?  Read the fine print!  This is such a great silly stamp set from Lil’ Inker Designs!  I think I’ll use it for the majority of my Valentine cards.  I know the grandkids will get some giggles from a card like this!

It may be a little hard to see in the photo, but I used one of the Stitched Rectangle dies to impress my patterned paper layers.  It looks pretty darn cool IRL!!

A Winter Fairy Wish Bug

One Layer Hello - Color Throwdown #324

HAPPY NEW YEAR, y’all!!

I hope you all had a very happy and restful Christmas and New Year celebration!  I’m back from a short holiday break and ready to roll!  How about you? 

So let’s start off the new year with a brand new Color Throwdown challenge!  The oh-so-lovely Monika is our hostess today and she’s chosen a very dramatic color scheme for us to play with!  What a great inspiration photo!

I chose to stay simple and a little dramatic as well with my one-layer Hello card:

~

~

The background is simply stenciled using Wendy Vecchi translucent embossing paste and a mini vineyard TCW stencil.  I colored a die-cut piece of linen with my Dylusions Cherry Pie ink spray and dried it with my heat tool.  The hello was cut using my WPlus9 Hand-Lettered Hello die.
