It's summer!!!  Well, at least you would think so if you go to the Color Throwdown blog today!  (Or step out into the 90+ temps we've been having in SC!)  This week Barbara is our host and she's chosen some of my favorite colors - beach colors!

She even used a photo of the beach as an inspiration!  A lady after my own heart!

Since I obviously have the beach on my mind, I pulled out my Smooth Sailing stamp set from Our Craft Lounge to make an ocean inspired card.

I love the lighthouse with the little heart and the font of this sentiment is fabulous!

Now on to my project!

I chose to alter a frame using some of the elements from the Maya Road Embellishment Bits pack to feature a photo of my grandkids taken when we were at the beach this past summer.  You know me….I'm always making a beach themed project!

I started with an empty magnetic-backed frame I picked up in a bargain bin somewhere.  (Yes, it seems that Micki and I shop in the same type of stores!)  And I picked out which pieces of the chipboard from the embellishment package that I wanted to use.  These were later covered with patterned paper.

I traced the heart shaped tin (also from Maya Road) onto the back of the photo. To do this, I held the photo up to a light source and placed the heart behind it (between the photo and the light) to decide the perfect placement.  I immediately laid it onto my desk and traced around it with a pencil, then I cut it out and mounted it into the heart with foam tape.

Then I decided on my overall layout.  (I took this photo before I decided on the final layout.)

I decided to use a mini bottle to hold some sand I had collected from the beach and placed some tiny shells (also collected at the beach) into the small tin box.  They were glued into the tin using Ranger Glossy Accents.

The "love" chipboard is from the Maya Road Love Mini Chipboard set.  I mixed some white and teal Claudine Hellmuth Studio paint on my craft sheet and instead of painting it onto the chipboard, I just flipped the word over and pressed it into the paint.  It came out with a cool texture and actually dried that way!  Score!

Here are some more shots of the finished project, which does in fact stick to my refrigerator door!!  Yay!  I was afraid there would be too much weight with all the embellishments, but that cheapo magnet did it's job!

Here's a cute little birthday card I made for one of our granddaughters who just turned 3.  She lives in Florida so I thought the fish theme would be really cute for her.  I used the darling little Shout It Out set from Our Craft Lounge.

I'm going to enter it in the Paper Players challenge #62 this week -  to make a birthday card.  I've been meaning for SO long to play along with those talented ladies and FINALLY was able to this week!

Hey there!  I hope y'all enjoyed your Labor Day weekend!  I had a really busy one the first 2 days.  After lifting and carrying kayaks and paddling most of the day Sunday, I was pretty sore and tired by Monday, so I chose to rest.  Besides, our weather was pretty gloomy and rainy after the 2 previous sunny days.

Today I wanted to share a card I made for a male friend's birthday.  It's pretty simple…I let the paper do most of the work!

It makes me kind of sad, really.  I always hate the end of summer.  I hope our warmer weather stretches out just a little longer.  I AM NOT a cold weather person!

Underwater - CPS229

Hi, folks! 

I decided I wanted to play along with the CPS sketch 229 for this week.  It's seems like forever since I did that, and I always love Tami's sketches!

I also wanted to try something with my new Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze that I've had on my mind since the E-Team played around with the new TA products a couple of weeks ago.  HERE is my post from that blog hop.

I stamped my images and colored them as usual with my Copic markers.  Then I painted over the entire scene with the Island Spring Glimmer Glaze.

I think it turned out pretty neat.  Here's a closeup view:

The fish was stamped and colored a second time, cut out and popped up with foam tape.  You can really see the glimmer and shine in the cropped photo at the top of this post.

I made this simple and fun card for my youngest grandson.  I just adore the sentiment.  My Mom used to sing that song to us ALL the time and it brings back so many wonderful memories!  Now I sing it to her whenever I see her!

I didn't have to embellish very much since this Beach Babe paper is so fun on it's own!  And that sunshine image from the Our Craft Lounge stamp set Sunshine Cheer is one of my most favorite stamp images EVER!

I really am!  LOL!

I was rifling through one of my drawers of paper and came across some paint chips that I had thrown in there from when we repainted the craft room/office.  This Valspar "Beachnut" one caught my eye, of course.  It's the color of sand, right?

So I thought I'd try stamping on it with one of my MANY beach stamp sets!  This one is Sandy Sunsets from Our Craft Lounge.

I've used the tree and tire swing from the Swingin' By stamp set from Our Craft Lounge.  I just love this tree!  And I actually remember swinging on old tire swings like this when I was a kid.  Yes, I can remember back that far!!

I had some time today to make a card for the OCL blog challenge to use chipboard.

I also wanted to play along with Tammy's Summer Stamping Challenge on Facebook.

I think this card using the Our Craft Lounge stamp set Coastal Wishes fits the bill for both challenges.  I used a Maya Road chipboard banner for my flag.  I brushed it with paint (just like the book page background), drew the black stitching on with a pen and then colored in the stripe with my R29 Copic marker.   A piece of Twinery maraschino twine is threaded through it and tied in a double bow.

The clouds and water are just swirled-on paint (obviously…it's pretty sloppy looking!).  But it's definitely a summer card.  Right, Tammy?

Today's my birthday!  And I'm so glad I've made it this far.  I still can't believe I'm so old!!  ;<]

This card was for a friend whose birthday was last Friday.  I know.  Another beach card!  Sorry, I can't help it!  And besides, he loves the beach too!
