Card Patterns #172 Final sketch Guest Designer

A few weeks ago I was honored to have  this card of mine be chosen as the winner of the Card Patterns #169 sketch challenge!  That meant I won the opportunity to be the Guest Designer for this week's sketch #172.  Little did I know at that time that it would turn out to be the very last challenge on the Card Patterns blog.  While I'm very sorry to see the challenges come to an end, I totally understand that Michelle wants to spend more time with her family.  Family should always be the first choice!

I chose to go with another beach scene.  You're not surprised, are you??  I actually used 4 different Our Craft Lounge stamp sets on this card.  They all work so well together!  The framed sand image is from the Treasured Friend set; the palm, grass, and birds are from the Sandy Sunsets set; the sentiment is from the Coastal Wishes set; and the flip flops are from the Beach Days set.  I simply dotted some more sand outside of the frame and extended the colors of the sand, sea and sky.

Birthday Dress

Happy Friday!!  I'm SO glad the weekend is finally here!  I'm on vacation next week and I can't wait to hit that beach!!

Before that happens though I wanted to show you my card today featuring Child's Dress 11 from the  A Day For Daisies shop.  It's precious!

I just had to pair it with this week's MOJO247 sketch!  And I decided to use the round version this time.

~

~

I've found that the only problem with making a round card is that it keeps trying to roll away while I'm trying to photograph it!!  LOL!

So here's what I did to show off this sweet little ruffled frock~

I just love that sweet little wire hanger and the Fancy Pants paper too!

Inspired by Disney... and it's so hard to say goodbye!

It's with great sadness and a heavy heart that the entire E-Team begins this, our last, blog hop.  Alas, our fearless leader, Daisy, has embarked on an exciting new adventure in the realm of Disney.  Although we are all SO THRILLED for her to begin her new dream job, we're so sad that our journeys along this creative path will no longer be concurrent.   This is a fabulous team with SO MUCH talent and enthusiasm for their art.  I will miss working with them SO MUCH!!  Love you girls!

To honor Daisy, our theme for this blog hop is "inspired by Disney".  We were to choose one quote from all of Walt's wonderful quotes throughout the years, and use it to inspire our journal page.

I chose a quote that is probably Walt Disney's most famous….

I think the sadness of this finality had an effect on my creativity.  Although I had a great time creating this page, I felt a little underwhelmed in my enthusiasm.

I started by using Claudine Hellmuth matte multi-medium to attach a book page to my journal page.  Next I stamped the beautiful image from Donna Downey's She Said stamp set.

Next I painted her skin with a mixture of Studio paints - traditional tan and modern red.  After that dried, I painted art masking fluid onto her entire image to protect it for the next step.  You can kind of see the yellowish film in the photo.

I took several more Studio paints and randomly painted the entire page.  I did create some circles by holding my brush in one place and simply twisting around in a circle.  I knew I wanted to do some doodling!

When the paint was thoroughly dried, I took an eraser and starting rubbing the edge of the dried masking fluid.  It peels off for the most part, but I did use the eraser to be sure I'd removed it all.

~

~

I know it looks like a mess in this photo, but after all my doodling and more painting, it turned out just fine.

~

So here's my final page showing a girl with all of her colorful bubble dreams.

Coastal Wishes - Color Throwdown #198

Welcome!!  It's time for the next Color Throwdown challenge!  Can you handle it?

Today, the fabulous Kerri is our host and I LOVE her inspiration photo!

Of course I do!  I decided to stay with the beach theme (imagine that!), and the 2 shades of orange just screamed sunset to me!  So here's my Coastal Wishes card~

~

~

I wanted to keep as much white as possible (the inspiration photo has a lot of "white" space), so instead of matting the image layer, I just used my T2 Copic marker to slightly outline the die cut.

This is such a happy color combo!  That's why I pulled out my Sunshine Cheer stamp set!  It always makes me smile!

And since I was using a color combo from my oh-so-talented friend Arielle, I decided to also use her sketch - retrosketches #17. It's a great one!

Walk on the Beach

You already know with that title that I LOVE the image I'm using today from A Day For Daisies.  We're featuring some of Tammy Thompson's fabulous beach images and I chose one of a Mom and her two sons walking on the beach.  This could definitely be my daughter Gretchen with her sons, Hunter and Will.

~

~

There's also a new challenge starting today on the ADFD blog….Use Texture.  That was an easy one for me on this card!

I started by using this week's CPS sketch #270:

~

~

This was perfect to show off the fabulous image!  I colored up the sweet family and kept the background and card base colors neutral.  The fantastic fibers are from May Arts and add the perfect texture.  But I just HAD to add some sand too!  I used Ranger Glossy Accents to add it to the beach.  This is actually some sand I brought back from my trip last year to Key West.

(Here's a bit of trivia for you.  Did you know that the beach sand in Key West is not actually from Key West?  There's so much coral there and the reef which is 6 miles off shore breaks most of the waves before they get to shore.  This means the waves can't bring in more sand.  So they've brought in sand from the Bahamas using barges!)

Dude 6 - Color Throwdown #197

Gee, is it time for another Color Throwdown challenge already?  Well, it sure is!!

Joan is our hostess this week and she's chosen a very bold and happy palette for us to play with.

Now I know you're thinking since the inspiration photo is of such gorgeous flowers, that I would make a floral inspired card.  NOT!  I thought the colors were perfect for a fun birthday card for my youngest grandson, using Hanging Loose with Kona.  His 6th birthday isn't until the end of July, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to color a turtle in Kiwi Kiss!

Happy Hot Air Balloon!!

I just LOVE hot air balloons!  I can't help but smile when I see them!  We were at my Mom's on Memorial Day weekend, and had to stop in Lowe's for some painting supplies.  When we left the store, the sky was filled with hot air balloons!  Upstate SC has a Freedom Weekend Aloft celebration each year, and it's so much fun!

This week's new release at the A Day For Daisies shop is all about hot air balloons!  They're SO CUTE!!

I chose to color the Happy Hot Air Balloon.  Definitely adorable and so much fun!

~

~

The balloon is a piece of patterned paper that I sponged with Ranger Distress inks.  I colored the rest with Copic markers, gave the background a mottled look using Marianne's "Nasty Rag" technique, and dotted the background with some Star Dust Stickles.  There's a good bit of stitching going on here too!

Kids at Play - Gimme Ten!!

A ten minute card?  When I saw what the challenge was at the Flourishes blog I just had to play.  It's called Gimme Ten and requires a card be made in ten minutes or less!  Making a card in such a limited time is TRULY a challenge for me.

~

~

Starting with a great sketch - SFYTT - and a great stamp set - Kids Play - made it easy!!  Here's the sketch:

I decided to play along in the Paper Players blog challenge this week - PP99.  I love this color combo!

~

~

I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to do…create a single die cut with both of the bright colors and use the dark gray for a silhouette.  Here's how I did it:

• I die cut one Labels Eighteen shape of each of the melon and limeade.
• I drew a wavy "horizon" line on the melon shape and, layering the melon on top of the limeade shape, I cut through both layers with my craft knife.

Easy peasy!!

I used the Our Craft Lounge stamp set Sandy Sunsets, the Sizzix Rays folder, and some ribbon to complete the card.
